Having been regulars at Taunton Rock 'n' Roll Club from its outset, Cheryl and I have heard nearly every track that has ever been played at the club. We have also heard a lot of comments both complimentary and adverse about the music presently being played at UK Rock 'n' Roll Clubs and events. We also know from experience what music is popular or unpopular with those who come to Taunton Rock 'n' Roll Club, what fills the floor and what clears it.
Well, using all this information we have employed a bit of modern technology and compiled a database of our music collection. Using this database we can produce lists of the club's favourite tracks and use these lists as a starting point for when we are DJing. We've used these lists every time we have been manning the decks and they are working well.
As well as playing tracks from the 'favourites' lists, we are always happy to play your requests. We have a collection of over 9,600 tracks so it's likely we'll have what you want.
From time to time we come across tracks that are new to us, which we feel have the potential to become a club favourite of the future. We will introduce these new tracks gradually and make sure that we give them a good few plays before we decide if they'll become fully paid up members of the 'favourites' list.
We hope that this will ensure that whether we're playing jivers, boppers or strollers, everyone will get to hear plenty of tracks that they love.
I would like to stress that this policy is only applied to evenings when we are DJing. We give our hired DJs a general brief as to what we/you want but leave the interpretation up to them. This gives them the opportunity to try out tracks that are popular at other clubs they play at, as well as playing tracks that they know are popular at Taunton Rock 'n' Roll Club. It ensures that Taunton Rock 'n' Roll Club is exposed to tracks that might not otherwise get played here and some of which may turn out to be hugely popular tracks. Regardless of who is DJing our aim for the evening is always the same, to cater for jivers, boppers and strollers and to provide a good balance of the tried and trusted favourites whilst giving tracks that are new to the club a fair chance.
Enjoy!
