The Thundertones go down a storm at Taunton Rock 'n' Roll Club

Hi all and a big thank you goes out to all of you who came along to support the evening; it certainly proved to be a good lesson in triumph over adversity! From the nightmare scenario we were faced with on Sunday evening when The Goldstar Ramblers e-mailed us to say they wouldn’t be able to make it, it would have been difficult to believe that we could have had such a fantastic evening, but thanks to The Thundertones it was just that. The Thundertones proved to be a more than worthy replacement, covering a whole range of 50’s music including classic R’n’R jivers, rockabilly, strollers and smoochers. We thought they were brilliant and so it seems did those who saw them with so many people coming up to us and saying “what a fantastic band”. The band were equally impressed with their audience; they loved the friendly atmosphere, enthusiasm and warm support that you gave them, so a big heartfelt thanks to you all from us for making Taunton Rock ‘n’ Roll Club such a pleasure to run.

The Thundertones actually helped us out twice on this evening. Firstly in stepping in at such short notice to play for us but secondly in helping us to hook up to one of their speakers after one of ours suddenly and unexpectedly decided it didn’t want to play any more. Again this proved good fortune in a way since the band’s speakers are obviously much more powerful beasts than ours.

You’ll definitely be seeing them back at Taunton Rock ‘n’ Roll Club in the future!

Rockin’ Round Devon With Pete & The Blonde
By Peter Vowles, Taunton

Busy weekend for the blonde & I as we sallied forth to Taunton Rock ‘n’ Roll at the Rugby club, North Petherton on Friday, 10th November. A band night with Blast Off and Tony Sullivan on the decks. Great venue this with a good wooden dance floor and cheap bar. We arrived early and bagged a good table which was just as well as the place rapidly reached overflowing!

Tony’s enthusiasm proved infectious and the floor was soon heaving. Then on came Blast Off with their first set which really set the place alight. They ended with my favourite number, ‘59’, then more good stuff from Tony interrupted only by the raffle. Back came Blast Off with their second set, even better than the first. I love the unique sound of Driss’s voice and the lead guitarist is something else. Difficult to realise that this is only a trio as the depth of sound is amazing. At the end the punters wouldn’t let them off

David Lloyd, Weston-Super-Mare attended two very good events recently:

“I have been to two really good events recently. The first was Taunton Rock ‘n’ Roll Club’s band night on Friday, 10th November, at North Petherton Rugby Club, Somerset. A really nice venue which has recently been refurbished, it has a good dance floor and nice lighting to give a good atmosphere. The band was Blast Off and they gave us a first class performance in both sets. They played a good selection; rockers, strollers and boppers keeping the dance floor full all night. Tony, who along with Cheryl runs the club, gave the band able support on the decks.
